README.md Package inq from pinned upstream source 2026-10-16 17:59:43 -05:00

inq.nix

Nix packaging for inq, a command-line API client. The upstream source is a pinned flake input; this flake builds the inq binary from it so other flakes can consume it without vendoring anything.

Upstream's tests are intentionally not run here — his CI already covers them. CI on this repo builds the package, pushes every built path to the attic cache (jingus/actions/attic-cache), and smoke-tests the binary.

Use as a flake input

inputs.inq-nix.url = "git+https://git.jingus.dev/jingus/inq.nix";

then reference inputs.inq-nix.packages.${system}.inq (or .default), e.g. in a dev shell:

pkgs.mkShell { packages = [ inputs.inq-nix.packages.${system}.inq ]; }

An overlay is also exposed; note it serves the package built against this flake's pinned nixpkgs, not the consumer's.

Ad hoc

nix run git+https://git.jingus.dev/jingus/inq.nix -- route <name>
nix profile install git+https://git.jingus.dev/jingus/inq.nix#inq

Maintenance

  • Bump upstream: nix flake update inq — the package version is read from upstream's Cargo.toml at eval time, so it follows along.
  • Bump nixpkgs in lockstep with jingus/actions and jingus/runner-images to keep CI substituting toolchain paths from cache.jingus.dev. inq needs rustc >= 1.95 (upstream rust-version); check before downgrading.
